I am sure there will be a place for stem cell injections for most diseases in the future. But what is it going to cost and when will it be commercially available? Don’t be like so many today that have to put their best friend to sleep prematurely due to this disease. Pain in dogs as they age due to hip dysplasia is a significant problem. It does seem to be a worse problem in pure breed large animals, but can occur regardless of size. They can either have very expensive surgery or live with it. I have found a great product called SerraPup which is a serrapeptase formula and works very well in fighting the arthritic symptoms that these poor dogs have. It is inexpensive and works in most without the GI symptoms encountered with anti-inflammatories like ibuprophen. Try it for yourself and see if you do not see significant improvement in your pets symptoms within 2 weeks. One of the nicest things is they can take it for long periods of time without adverse side effects.

Stem Cell therapy is really amazing. It is interesting to hear that it is already so accepted for other animals, but not human-animals. Hopefully we'll get there.

I've not seen data or results from ACell but I have seen the powerful effects of regenerative stem cell therapy using fat-derived stem cells which also use the animal's own stem cells to initiate healing. While it is not a cheap procedure, it is cheaper than a hip replacement and is the gold standard in veterinary medicine right now.

There is another regenerative medicine treatment for K9 osteoarthritis. It is from a company called ACell, Inc. ACell injects an extracellular matrix that helps recruit the body's own stem cells.

They have a published study demonstrating effectiveness. It's available off the shelf and is much less expensive.
