ZAPP Opens New Facility Hopes To Address The Horrific Pet Overpopulation In Mexico

Right now in Mexico, thousands and thousands of dogs and cats roam the streets seeking food and shelter, most dealing with serious disease, starvation, heat exhaustion and eventually, death. In the past in San Felipe, if strays were caught they were electrocuted. Now, because of ZAPP, if caught strays are euthanized, it must be by sedation.

To further address the issue, ZAPP has officially opened a new facility in Mexico that has an open door policy. Officials that used to take strays straight to their death, now drop the animals at the ZAPP door where they receive treatment and more.

Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart

Purina, Kroger, and animal lover Trista Sutter, from ABC’s The Bachelorette, have teamed up to launch the third-annual Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart campaign, celebrating the unique bond between people and their pets, while donating funds to animal welfare organizations nationwide. Together Purina and the Kroger family of stores will donate $150,000 to animal welfare organizations in 2010 as part of this year’s campaign and will recognize the outstanding efforts of animal welfare organizations nationwide. The campaign will conclude with a television special showcasing the unique people-pet relationship.

Malea McGuinness – Musician & Animal Rights Advocate

Here at PETSblogs we love music nearly as much as we love animals. If you’ve ever seen the Sarah McLachlan video for the ASPCA and been moved to tears (or having to turn the channel because you just can’t take seeing any more of the instances of animal cruelty it shows) you know what we mean. It’s a good thing when celebrities can use their fame and fortune to help promote animal rights and place the issue in the spotlight.

We recently discovered Malea McGuinness, a pop/rock singer-songwriter who’s been an extremely active animal rights advocate and we wanted to introduce other pet-lovers to her music and her mission!

Food Shelters and Pantries Come Together to Help Feed Fido

If you’re like many Americans, the country’s current economic state has forced you to trim your budget. If you’re a pet owner, you’ve probably had to switch to less expensive food and fewer vet visits for your pets. Sadly, for many less fortunate pet owners, the recession has made it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to continue caring for their pets. This is heartbreaking for both the owners, who have to let go of beloved extended family members, and for the pets, who have to leave a loving home for an uncertain future.
