On May 8th, the 2010 Charlotte Pet Expo will be held at Cabarrus Arena and Events Center at 4751 NC Highway 49 in Concord, NC. Admission, and parking, is free to the public!
The Charlotte Pet Expo is the pet lover’s premier event! Bringing all the foremost trainers, groomers, rescues, shelters, vets, clinics, pet stores, retailers, hobbyist groups, and societies together. Their goal is to assemble all key areas of the pet companion world to educate, demonstrate, and perform for the Charlotte pet lover community and beyond.
Tobacco is Toxic for Toto, Too
If you are a smoker and love your dog, there is one VERY important thing you can do to save Toto’s life and yours too: quit smoking. A growing body of research – including the Surgeon General’s Report – shows there are no safe levels of exposure to secondhand smoke – for humans and for animals.
An estimated 50,000 Americans lose their lives to secondhand smoke (“SHS”) annually and 4 million youth (16 percent) are exposed to secondhand smoke in their homes. A number of studies have indicated that animals, too, face health risks when exposed to the toxins in secondhand smoke, from respiratory problems to allergies and even cancer.

How To Make Hummingbird Food
I adore hummingbirds. They’re such pretty little creatures to have fluttering around the yard. Every Spring I look at the old note I have stuck to the inside of our recipe cabinet to remind myself of the right sugar to water mix ratio before I make the first batch of food and set the feeders out again. So today I thought I’d share the hummingbird food recipe and how I make a batch.
I’m also including some of my favorite pictures, my favorite place to buy hummingbird feeders, and what I do to keep the feeders clean and nicely filled all Spring, Summer, and Autumn.

April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

We can change attitudes regarding what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to how animals should be treated.”

s humans we long to find out where we have evolved from and why we behave in a certain way. Tracing our ancestors can be a fascinating and inspiring activity. However is it essential to do the same for our pets? Some would say this is a ridiculous idea but for others it may actually be a worthwhile procedure.
What If Dogs Ran The Internet
Imagine, if dogs ran the internet, or at least had their own world wide web? Think about how different it would look, especially those interactive sites where we go to check in with our friends, network and generally waste time. I’d imagine those would have some differences, although the concepts would be eerily similar since, after all, dogs are territorial animals — like us — and would only allow other dogs they knew and liked access to their internet spaces. Strange dogs would only be accepted if they came with established cronies, and even then would be under close scrutiny for a while.
There would probably be at least a few not-so-subtle differences . . .
