Scent Of The Missing Giveaway

5

Scent of the Missing by Susannah CharlesonI’ve been reading Susannah Charleson’s Scent of the Missing and I’m happy to announce that the publisher has not only sent us the copy I’ve been reading, but 5 additional copies to be given away to you, the readers.

From the moment I started reading the first page of the first chapter, I’ve been captivated . . . as much by Susannah’s writing as by the story itself. I’m not going to post a personal review today, simply because I haven’t finished the book. But we wanted to go ahead and open up the giveaway so that we can begin selecting and sending copies to the winners!

The Official Book Blurb

In the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing, Susannah Charleson clipped a photo from the newspaper: an exhausted canine handler, face buried in the fur of his search-and-rescue dog. A dog lover and pilot with search experience herself, Susannah was so moved by the image that she decided to volunteer with a local canine team and soon discovered firsthand the long hours, nonexistent pay, and often heart-wrenching results they face.

Still she felt the call, and once she qualified to train a dog of her own, she adopted Puzzle, a strong, bright Golden Retriever puppy who exhibited unique aptitude as a working dog but who was less interested in the role of compliant house pet. Puzzle’s willfulness and high drive, both assets in the field, challenged even Susannah, who had raised dogs for years.

Scent of the Missing is the story of Susannah and Puzzle’s adventures and of the close relationship they forge as they search for the lost–a teen gone missing, an Alzheimer’s patient wandering in the cold, signs of the crew amid the space shuttle Columbia disaster. From the earliest air-scent lessons to her final mastery of whole-body dialogue, Puzzle emerges as a fully collaborative partner in a noble enterprise that unfolds across the forests, plains, and cityscapes of the Southwest. Along the way, Susannah and Puzzle learn to read the clues in the field and in each other, to accomplish together the critical work neither could do alone and to unravel the mystery of the human-canine bond.

The Book Trailer

This video was recently created to help promote the book. I thought it would serve as a nice introduction to the story and what it’s all about:

If you’re interested in getting a copy of your own to read and share with friends, just leave us a comment here on this post.

We’ll be giving away 3 of the copies from the comments left here between now and next Friday, April 30, at midnight (EST). Then we’ll have a new giveaway for the remaining 2 books.

Share.

About Author

Devoted pet owner and now, devoted pet editor, Judi worked in traditional offices, keeping the books and the day-to-day operations organized. Taking her dog to work every day for over a decade never seemed odd. Neither did having an office cat. She knows what it's like to train a new puppy and she's experienced the heartache of losing beloved companions. Retired, she currently lives with her spoiled dog and four chickens (who are, interestingly enough, also spoiled).

  1. What a wonderful gift to be able to communicate with man’s best friend to rescue the lost! The trainers and dogs have my deepest respect. Look forward to reading the book.

  2. Dogs are surely man’s best friend! It is incredible the talents the little creatures have. Humans should learn how to be so willing to unselfishly please as our canine friends are. I think the book will be a wonderful and uplifting story.

  3. What an interesting and touching story! It really is amazing how much dogs are an asset to us humans.

  4. A very wonderful book, one that I have read. I must admit tears were involved but if you are a pet lover and a pet protector you will “get it”. I offered this read to all my employees at PetVoice. We all enjoyed it.
