Scent Of The Missing Giveaway

I’ve been reading Susannah Charleson’s Scent of the Missing and I’m happy to announce that the publisher has not only sent me the copy I’ve been reading, but 5 additional copies to be given away to you, the readers.

From the moment I started reading the first page of the first chapter I’ve been captivated . . . as much by Susannah’s writing as by the story itself. I’m not going to post a personal review today, simply because I haven’t finished the book. But I wanted to go ahead and open up the giveaway so that we can begin selecting and sending copies to the winners!

Dog DNA, Barking Mad or Useful

s humans we long to find out where we have evolved from and why we behave in a certain way. Tracing our ancestors can be a fascinating and inspiring activity. However is it essential to do the same for our pets? Some would say this is a ridiculous idea but for others it may actually be a worthwhile procedure.

Think about how different it would look, especially those interactive sites where we go to check in with our friends, network and generally waste time. I’d imagine those would have some differences, although the concepts would be eerily similar since, after all, dogs are territorial animals — like us — and would only allow other dogs they knew and liked access to their internet spaces. Strange dogs would only be accepted if they came with established cronies, and even then would be under close scrutiny for a while.

There would probably be at least a few not-so-subtle differences . . .

New Canine Heartworm Guidelines Released

It is estimated that currently more than 1 million dogs in the United States are infected with heartworms. This potentially fatal disease has been found in dogs native to all 50 states. Even as diagnostic methods advance, preventive therapies improve and disease awareness increases among veterinary professionals and pet owners, heartworm continues to present a serious threat to dogs’ health.

The American Heartworm Society (AHS) has released new canine heartworm guidelines for 2010. These guidelines are considered the official veterinary industry perspective for epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of the disease and include some notable differences from previous versions.
